I would recommend that you call your vets office and let them know what glucosamine tablets and the mg of each table, your vet will be able to give you the correct daily dosage. Good Luck

I use liquid K9- Liquid Health (glucosamine/chondroitin & msm) which I bought at a pet store and was told it's human grade. The glucosamine tablets are a pain to give, the liquid is mixed with food and so much easier.

Most of the "human grade" supplements are essentially the same than the ones they sell specially made for pets. The only time you need to be careful is with supplements that are high in zinc and iron as those can be harmful to your dog.

Glucosamine supplements for humans are either just glucosamine, or mixes with MSM and Chondroitin. The biggest difference to the stuff they market specifically for dogs is the price – the human grade supplements tend to be a lot cheaper and you have more of a choice in regards to brands and mixtures (plain Glucosamine, Glucosamine plus Chondroitin, etc.).

My dog gets two Glucosamine / MSM / Chondroitin combination pills as well as two Fish / Flax / Borage oil pills as supplements to her food everyday. I’ve been using the people brands (I buy at Target) for years and prefer them over the "specifically for dogs" brands because they are the same thing, just a lot cheaper.

I always like to get human quality grade supplements for my dogs.
For glucosamine, there are different sources of manufacture. There are some dogs that actually respond better to glucosamine from green lipped mussles. Also I prefer glucosamine sulphate as it helps to strengthen the collagen around the joints
Whatever the source, glucosamine is better when taken together with chondrotin and MSM. Don’t forget too that vitmain c is necessary for better absorption of glucosamine.
If you are giving it to your dog as a prophylatic, then a border collie needs at least 500mg a day. If your dog is already suffering from arthritis, then at 1000mg to 1500mg a day is recommended.
A recent study has also found that omega 3 and 6 oils work synergistically with glucosamine for joint protection. You might want to consider adding some flaxseed oil to the diet.

I gave Osteo-Biflex to my 2 German Sheherds in their senior years and it really helped them. My vet said to just give them the dose that a person would take. Don't be alarmed if you accidentally give them an extra one. My vet said that it is just a supplement (like a vitamin) and it shouldn't have any side effects.I use to wait for them to go on sale (buy 1 and get 1 free). Stores run sales on those quite a bit. They are kind of expensive, but isn't your best friend worth it?

My GSD has severe hip and elbow displasia. We talked to a specialist and he instructed us to put him on adult human dosages of Osteo Bi Flex w/ MSM, fish oil, and an anti inflammatory called Previcox. Within days Dante was able to climb stairs and jump into the pick up truck after being unable to do these things for a long while.

Awww. What kind of dog do you have? I have an 11 year old West highland terrier and he has awful hip problems. We tried a lot of stuff but nothing worked so we ended up trying this stuff.

It has glucosamine and chondroitin in it. We give him 2 tablets with his dinner and it works miracles. It is super effective and my dog completely changed within a few days of taking the pill. He perked up and started running arond and playing with our other dog. HEs like a different dog. I highly recommend it for your dog. Just make sure you are consistent and give your dog their pills every day. If you don’t then their problems will come back. I hope everything works out! Best of luck.

Oh and as for the dosage, just call your vet. Tell them what product you have and ask how much you should give your dog. Tell them how big your dog is because thats important.

There are so many products!!!! I used Liquid Health, order it from something like country vet supply on the www now I use Cetyl-M different product, but has some glucosamine in it. I get it through a local dealer
